During your holidays in Marmaris Turkey, one of the things to do that is simply a must is the ledgendary Kizkumu beach in the village of Orhaniye, Marmaris.

According to the legend, Kizkumu is  the place of the maiden who gave this place its name. Once upon a time pirates attacked the village, and to escape their clutches a beautiful girl who lived here filled her skirts with sand and began to build a causeway across the bay. But the sand ran out before she could reach the other side and she flung herself into the sea rather than fall into pirates’ hands. Even mundane geological facts do not stop this story lending its own enchantment to this beautiful place.

Every year thousands of visitors have made Kizkumu one of their places to visit in Marmaris during their holidays. They take route bare feet from one end to the other and travel the distance of the bed of sand that lays above the sea.  The water goes knee high and is very refreshing during a hot summers’ day!  You can also see various water sports and kids swimming, and parents taking photos of this interesting landscape.  During jeep safaris, Kizkumu is one of the places they visit.  So if you don’t go on your own, try a jeep safari and see it during this trip.
